Getting Started

You may be wondering where you should start but don't worry, help is at hand!

Setting up Longbow 2008

When you run Longbow 2008 for the first time, it may not be apparent what you should enter first.  We recommend that when you are first setting up your system, you should enter details in the following order;

Step 1

You should start by entering all the archers details through the My Archers facility.  You should include any current handicaps and/or classifications that they may hold.

Step 2

The next thing you should do is set up any clubs that you intend to manage through the My Clubs facility.

Make sure that you add all the clubs current club records BEFORE you start entering any new recordsheets.

You can add the archers you have created as members of this club using the Membership Tab.  Once an archer is a member of a club, any recordsheets you complete for these archers will contribute to the clubs 'club records' (as in best scores shot).

Once an archer is made a member of a club, that member can then be given a position on the committee within their club.

Step 3

You can now start to enter recordsheets through the My Records facility.

Rules of thumb

There are a couple of other things that we recommend when you start using Longbow 2008 to ensure that handicap and classification calculations are made correctly. These are;

  1. Only ever enter a full seasons results regardless of the discipline.
  2. Ensure that you enter the correct bowstyles as Longbow allows each archer to have a classification and a handicap for EVERY bowstyle they shoot.

Opening and viewing items

You can open and view items by double clicking on either the icon or an item in a list.

The archer icon Archer Iconindicates that an item has a corresponding archer record and this record can be viewed by double clicking that item.

The club icon Club Icon indicates that an item has a corresponding club record and this record can be viewed by double clicking that item.

The recordsheet icon Recordsheet Icon indicated that an item has a corresponding recordsheet and this recordsheet can be viewed by double clicking that item.

Exploring available options

There are many facilities that can be exposed within Longbow with a right click of the mouse.  You will find that the available options will sometimes vary depending on whether you have items selected in the list and when you have no items selected.

Most of the lists you find in Longbow will have at least one set of options when you right click.  These features include removing items from the list and printing items in the list.

Configuration/Customisation

Although you will most probably not using Longbow on a daily basis, it is worth taking a few minutes to explore the customisation options within the system.

Because Longbow covers every aspect of archery and contains every type of bowstyle recognised, you may want to set some defaults for these items and these defaults are set on Longbows customise page.

You can also change how you view details on the main screen.  Each item list (as in MyArchers, MyClubs and MyRecords) can be configured independantly and your preferences on how you want to view these items will be saved.
