The Bowmen of Lyme Website.
When the Bowmen of Lyme originally approached MDESystems, they already had a webpage
but this was quickly becoming un-manageable and so required a new website to be
built.
They specified that the website should be built entirely in HTML as they wanted
to use the cheapest Hosting Package available. They also specified that the
website should be cross browser compatible, fully accessible, W3C compliant and
easy to keep up to date.
The first site made for the Bowmen of Lyme used frames. MDESystems created
one 'Master Page' that sorted out the look of the site and then 'content' pages
to store the actual details to be shown on each page. Although this does have
its drawbacks, it is the easiest to maintain as each 'page' has its own document,
therefore making it very easy to update. The main downside to this approach
is that you actually have only one visible web page, this can result in a lower
your website rating in some search engines.
In Autumn 2006, the Bowmen of Lyme requested that their site be brought up to date
with a fresh new look. This new site was contructed without using frames to
ensure that they could work towards being AAA compliant. The site now sports
a completely new style and allows them to have different 'themes' that can be applied
at different times through the year. The structure of the site will also allow
for an easy transition to an asp.net website at
a later date.
The image shown below is their original framed website.

and the one below is their brand new look showing their 4 themes, one for each season.
Notice that the images also change to show how the club changes through the year.
As you can see, the new look is a lot cleaner than the previous version and is fully
compliant with all major browsers.
